Influence of Gas Temperature and Heat Treatment on Microstructure and Properties of Cold Sprayed Commercially Pure Titanium

Abstract Diffusion of oxygen and nitrogen in the cold sprayed commercially pure Ti (CS CP Ti) deposits profoundly impacts their mechanical properties. One plausible approach to additively manufacture a malleable (wrought) high-density is optimizing CS deposition parameters considering reduction porosity for following heat treatment. Herein, we examined porosity, bulk density, hardness characteristics produced at varying processing gas temperatures (700, 800, 900°C), which significantly influences interactions with nitrogen. Post-processing treatments 900, 1000°C were performed high vacuum furnace, respectively, diminished splat boundaries submicron pores increasing grain size. SEM images revealed that had dense microstructure low porosity. According LECO research, spraying (i.e. 700°C) maintained levels same level as stock powders. The density 900 °C matched wrought metal.
